This Financial Scholarship work will be performed within the research group ‘Wide band gap Materials’ of the Institute for Materials Research, University of Hasselt, in the framework of the project BOF – New initiative with a title ‘Nanodiamond particle spin magnetometer en FRET sensors: novel routes towards molecular resolution neuro-network imaging’. The Financial Scholarship project is carried out in collaboration with the University of Antwerp and international partners.

The Financial Scholarship candidate will focus his research on the development of novel nanoscopic optical sensing methods using luminescent diamond nanoparticles for contactless readout and communication with neural cells.Financial Scholarship Emphasis will be put on the physics and manipulation with nanoscale materials, their optical characterization and development of sensing methods with molecular resolution in physiological media. The Financial Scholarship topic is related to latest developments in neuroscience where optical detection is being used as a contactless tool for monitoring of signals in neural networks such as in the mammalian brain. The biological aspect of this work will be carried out in collaboration with the University of Antwerp and applied to neural cells in vitro and in vivo, leading to novel highly sensitive neural detection probes. Master Scholarships a Unique International

The MS Programme is designed to enhance the capacity of developing countries to manage their drylands resources. It is intended to provide young professionals and scientists an international perspective on resource management approaches in drylands. Students enrolled in the 2010-2011 programme will attend a 4-week intense course at CAREERI facilities in Lanzhou, China from 13 September - 12 October 2010. Upon completion of the course work and approval of the research proposal, students will carry out their field research which will be hosted by one of the partner organizations. The students are also required to complete a research project in their home country. The MS Programme is jointly offered by the seven partner institutions as an internationally accepted degree.

It is anticipated that the graduates from the MS Programme will serve in government departments and agencies (e.g., those dealing with agriculture, forestry, natural resource management, and combating desertification), teaching positions in institutions of higher learning, research institutions and doctoral research programmes.

Job Description: One Postdoctoral fellowship is available in the Synaptic Plasticity Research Group, at the Hertie-Institute for Clinical Brain Research, University of Tübingen, Germany. Many diseases of aging, including Alzheimer’s disease and various forms of Parkinsonism are associated with impaired protein homeostasis caused by improper folding, processing or transport of proteins. Our laboratory uses Drosophila as a model system to study the changes in protein homeostasis that alter cellular function and lead to the initiation of a pathological chain reaction. The focus of our research interests are primarily: (1) anterograde axonal transport, (2) synaptic plasticity and (3) mitochondrial dynamics and function.

The aim of your project would be to study – in the context of several established disease models- the time sequence of “disease manifestation” in vivo (see Nat Protocols 2007; 2(12):3285-98). In addition, defined positions inside the neuron, with a known history, for example an emerging axonal swelling that has been followed by in vivo imaging for hours, would be re-identified via electron microscopy. The ability to correlate this known history with the high resolution of electron microsopy will allow us to study the structure and composition of disease intermediates in great detail and will hopefully enable you to play a valuable role in the projects of our group and collaborating work groups regarding rational design of treatment strategies. Your work would be done in close collaboration with other researchers in my laboratory whom characterize the behavior and electrophysiological hallmarks of disease progression.

You should have a solid experience in EM techniques (chemical and cryo-preservation, thin section EM and immuno-labeling). Knowledge and experience in electron tomography as well as a background in cell biology, neurobiology or medicine are an advantage, but not a pre-requisite.

Postdoctoral Fellow or Research Associate to study the neural circuits financial scholarship

Position at the level of postdoctoral fellow or research associate is available to study the neuronal mechanisms that govern perception and learning. Our focus is to understand the mechanisms of these processes at the circuit level in the visual system. To this end, we employ methods that allow us to study the properties of network of neurons in vivo during behavior. Specifically, we use chronic arrays of tetrodes and in vivo two-photon imaging combined with psychophysical and computational methods. We have developed the capability to record from the same individual neurons across multiple days in awake, behaving primates that gives us the unique opportunity to study how circuits reorganize in vivo during learning. Our lab has also strong interest to develop new technologies to record from interconnected neural circuits using novel imaging and multi-electrode recording methods and also to develop methods – including optogenetic and electrical microstimulation tools – to manipulate the activity of circuits in vivo. The research scientist for this position will have the opportunity to study brain mechanisms of behavior using one or a combination of these methods.

AFUW QLD, the Queensland association of the Australian Federation of University Women, has been providing fellowships and scholarships for postgraduate research or study since 1972. AFUWQ is part of the International Federation of University Women.

A branch of AFUWQ, the Fellowship Fund Branch, Inc (FFI), was incorporated in 1983 to perform the management and administration of Fellowships.

FFI owns and manages the Academic Dress Hire Service (ADHS). It is a charitable organization and profits from its operations together with investment funds, provide Fellowships to women postgraduate students.

Our Fellowships have been awarded to women graduates from more than ten countries, and have supported studies in a wide range of disciplines, for example: marine biology, architecture, law, literature, radiography, mathematics, social work, archaeology, economics, molecular biology, management, music, information technology and performing arts.

Our aim is to assist women with tertiary qualifications to increase their knowledge and broaden their experience through studying or working in a different environment.

Graduates, on their Graduation day, are encouraged to contribute to the work of FFI by donating their refund cheque back to the organization for the provision of Fellowships.

The Fellowships

The Fellowship Fund Branch of AFUWQ Inc (FFI) awards two types of fellowship. These are:

The Freda Bage Fellowship (three years), and
The Commemorative Fellowships (one year).

The details of each are explained below. The Fellowships are named after women who have made outstanding contributions as scholars and leaders in tertiary institutions in Queensland.
Applicants may apply for both types of Fellowship in the one year (see the Application Form).

The Freda Bage Fellowship

- only available for PhD studies;
studies must commence by September of the year following receipt of the award;
maximum period of the Fellowship is three years;
- the annual stipend is paid in two parts, usually in January and July;
the first payment is made following finalisation of Fellowship documentation and FFI's satisfaction that the program of study has been accepted by the nominated institution;
- subsequent stipend payments are subject to satisfactory progress of the research work, as indicated by receipt of progress reports from the Fellowship recipient signed by the supervisor of the research work at the end of years one and two;
- a final typewritten report is required at completion of the Fellowship, and should include information about any publications arising from the funded study.

Amount awarded

The annual value of the Fellowships is linked to the value of Australian Postgraduate Awards (APAs) plus 10%. As an indication, an APA in 2008 was worth $22,020 per year.

Number of Fellowships

FFI may vary the number of Fellowships awarded from year to year for any reason.
As a guide only, the annual number of awards made in recent years has been in the order of 5 - 6 Fellowships. FFI reserves the right not to award Fellowships in any year.

Selection Criteria

FFI awards its Fellowships using a holistic review and selection process. Applications from all academic disciplines are welcome. FFI's decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into in respect of any aspect of the applications and awards process. Applicants who miss out in any given year are welcome to reapply in subsequent years; however, as a matter of policy, FFI does not offer opinions or advice on the quality or future prospects of unsuccessful applications.

The Process

1.You submit your application so that FFI receives it by the closing date.
2.All received applications are acknowledged in writing.
3.Applicants who pass the stage 1 competitive review process are asked to participate in an interview. A marine ecosystem model evaluation project. The focus will be on developing evaluation techniques to move beyond simply evaluating models towards constraints on future projections

Program Description

A two‐year post‐doctoral position is available at the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l’Environnement (LSCE / IPSL) in Gif sur Yvette, France, in the field of global marine biogeochemistry, starting January 2011. The position is part of the European Marie‐Curie Initial Training Network GreenCycles II (www.greencycles.org) and involves collaboration with the leading European research centres on earth system interactions.

Marine phytoplankton is a key element of the climate system through its control on the ocean biological carbon pump. It is also the first component of marine food chains and hence exerts a strong control on the availability of marine resources. In an effort to improve the representation of marine ecosystems, ocean biogeochemistry models have evolved to include a growing number of organisms aggregated according to their functionality into "Plankton Functional Types" (PFTs). Such models ‐ now called Dynamic Green Ocean Models (DGOMs) ‐ open up new and exciting avenues of research to explore interactions between marine ecosystems and climate change on various time scales.

MAREMIP will be a highly cross‐cutting activity drawing on data and expertise from across GCII and will utilise a common methodology developed in close collaboration with T3.1 ("TERREMIP"). Model evaluation will target the marine components of models used by network partners and will exploit data from coupled GCM simulations submitted to the IPCC AR5 multi‐model database.

We are seeking a highly‐motivated candidate to spearhead these activities within the Marine Biogeochemistry and Climate Modelling group at LSCE. The successful candidate is expected to interact with the research groups at UEA (Norwich, UK) and ETH (Zurich, Switzerland), as well as with the MetOffice Hadley Centre group (Exeter, UK) and will actively participate in network‐wide workshops and training events.

Eligible Candidates

Researchers holding a PhD are eligible for this GreenCycles Post‐Doc within their first five years of their career (including the time taken to obtain the PhD). At the start of their fellowship, researchers may not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in France for more than 12 months in the preceding 3 years. French nationals are eligible only if they have been active in research in a Third Country for at least three of the last four years.

Experts believe that community colleges are important, and partnerships with the Universities of Arizona, have the potential to significantly increase enrollment.

24 August-Peter Kozak was an engineer since high school.

After the drawing classes and build more efficient cars, Illinois native moved to Tucson with the goal of graduating from the University of Arizona College of Engineering.

But instead of saving immediately enrolled in the AU, Kozak at Pima Community College, money for school fees and to receive more attention in class.

Kozak, 21, is not typical for a transfer student. It is a path of specialization, which allowed, in the lab, the two institutions, without worrying about whether the AU will be held to their demands.

The PCC-AU partnership is an excellent example of how higher education in Arizona is changing, as three of the state universities to expand the level of search for hotels in all regions of the country through increased cooperation from community colleges to improve its " offered online and the construction of four new - college years.

You also get the bulk of their funding from local taxes instead of state and is therefore not visit under the same pressure and legal fees that the University of Arizona.

Under the plan, students at community college for two years. Universities hire Faculty of Education, which - in contrast to the research - teaching the last two years.

Through a combination of factors, they believe that universities provide students with the same quality in popular courses such as communications, business and education, which can be found in the universities - but at a lower price.

Merit scholarships

The University operates a Merit Scholarship scheme for all international fee-paying bachelors degree students studying at London Metropolitan University. This scheme is designed to reward hard-working, international fee paying, bachelor programme students who gain excellent results. Congratulations to those students achieving high marks.

Please note the major change for students starting in September 2006 or later: If you are an international fee-paying bachelors student, that achieves an average mark of 70% or higher in the 2008/9 academic year, and are continuing as a bachelors student in 2009/10, you will receive a Merit Scholarship of UP TO £1,000 (maximum if you studied full-time) pro-rata or a lesser amount if you studied part-time. Continuing London Met students enrolled prior to September 2006 will continue under the previous rules.
Merit scholarships are given as a fee adjustment that will be processed to your fee account to reduce your fee. To obtain an early payment discount, you should pay the full fee by the required date. Any fee refunds which result from a previous payment of fees by scholarship students will be paid in December.
Merit scholarships apply only to international students continuing on an undergraduate course. They do not apply to students progressing from a London Met undergraduate degree to a London Met postgraduate course, who will be eligible for the 10% Alumni discount.

The age of the computer and the worldwide Internet has opened the doors that took an unpleasant amount of time in the past. Applicants should always have a well prepared resume demonstrating all of their personal success in academics, awards received and school and community involvement. In addition, they should always have a strong essay available listing their career objectives. Students should also have strong reference letters to support their recommendation for the scholarship. These letters and essays go a long way in selling who you are and what you’re about to the scholarship committees.

What I prefer is to set an appointment in person to meet with the financial aid guidance counselor. This is the best because you can pick up valuable advice which will steer you closer to your scholarship/aid goal.
